Deeper
Deeper is a weekend of events designed to entertain, stimulate and to help you think about the Christian faith. There are a number of events happening over the weekend of 10th-12th October. Here’s what’s happening…
Friday 10th October - ‘Is God green?’
7.30pm, St. Andrew’s Church, Royal Parade
An event with Professor David Huntley, Professor of Physical Oceanography at the University of Plymouth, and Revd. Wayne Massey of Christ Church Clifton, Bristol. Together, these two interesting speakers will be considering whether the Christian faith has anything to say about the current environmental crisis and whether God is, in fact, ‘green’.
Admission is free, and there will be refreshments provided as well as a range of interactive stalls and exhibits from environmentally minded groups. The evening begins at 7.30pm at St. Andrew’s Church on Royal Parade.
Saturday 11th October - ‘Deeper under the sea’
2pm, Family fun at the National Marine Aquarium
Something for both parents and children! A chance to take advantage of a group rate to the excellent National Marine Aquarium by the Barbican and enjoy an afternoon of fun and fishes! A craft activity will be provided for the children during the afternoon and Wayne Massey will be giving a short, stimulating talk for the adults.
Places for this event need to be booked in advance, and you can download an application form (including prices) here. Bookings need to be returned to St. Andrew’s Church Office by 3rd October.
Saturday 11th October - ‘Strictly Salsa’
7.30pm, food and salsa dancing at the Royal Western Yacht Club
If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to dance salsa, now is your chance! An enjoyable evening including a dance lesson (for people of all abilities!), delicious food and good company. As part of the evening, Wayne Massey will be giving a short talk and there will be plenty of chances to put your new found dancing skills into practice. Tickets are £10 per person, including food and dance lesson. Tickets can be bought from the Church Office by telephoning on 01752 661414 or via email at office@standrewschurch.org.uk
Sunday 12th October - Guest Services at St. Andrew’s Church
11.00am and 6.30pm, St. Andrew’s Church, Royal Parade
If you’re interested about what you’ve heard at some of the other events, or just fancy giving church a go for once, why not come along to one of our guest services at 11.00am and 6.30pm? The services are designed to be very friendly and you won’t be expected to do or say anything you don’t want to! Wayne Massey will be speaking at the services on the subject of “How do I go deeper”. Children’s activities and creche are provided at the 11am service, so it’s perfect for those with young families.
If any of these events have grabbed your interest, then why not think about joining our Christianity Explored course? It’s a chance, over seven evenings, to consider the basics of the Christian faith and to hear what Jesus says about himself from the pages of Mark’s gospel.
